Shall We Pray

Text: 2 Cor. 12:6 - 10

Introduction: The question it seems is: Shall We Pray. The question this evening is: Is that a question or a statement? Is there a time when we should not pray? We are going to look into this question through the eyes of Almighty God.

I. Sometimes Prayer Is Not Always Answered The Way We Want
A. Paul asked that the thorn in the flesh be removed; the answer was the grace to endure it.
B. Pray for the Lord’s Will to be done
C. Pray ernestly
D. Moses asked to be permitted to cross the Jordan; the answer was permission to view the land of promise. Deu 3:23-37

II. Pray For Your Enemies
A. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Mat. 5:44
B. Hard thing to do!
C. Shows Character

III. Pray For Soul Winners
A. The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. Mat. 9:37,38
B. The church needs workers
C. The harvest is ripe

IV. Prayers Are Unanswered Sometimes Because Of Unbelief
And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. 18And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. Mat. 17:16-21
A. Lack of trust
B. Lack of Faith
C. Prayer and fasting go together

V. The Church Should Be A Place Of Prayer
And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. Mat. 21:13

VI. Prayer Makes Us Strong
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Mat. 26:41

VII. Pray Always
Pray without ceasing. 1Thes. 5:17
