Contenders For The Faith


Text: Jude 1:3

Introduction: This Independence Day let us not forget what we are independent from and what it has taken for us to keep our rights and liberties that we enjoy everyday. Then we need to set ourselves in the defensive mode to ensure that we do not loose any more of our religious rights and freedoms.

I. The Nature of Our Labor
Heb. 6:10 " For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have showed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister."
A. God Rewards His laborers
1. Blessings
2. Physically
3. Spiritually
B. But that should not be the reason we serve Him
C. The nature of our labor is Love

II. The Motive of Our Labor (Salvation)
Psalms 27:1,2 " The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
A. We need to work to keep what freedoms we still have
B. Like the song we'll work till Jesus comes
C. We need be like Paul and fight a good fight. Don't give up!

III. The Strength of Our Labor (Jesus)
A. Our energy comes from the sun and from the Son. (Our Strength)
B. Jesus provides the fuel to keep in the race. (Our Provider)
C. Our Power - Acts 1:8 " But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

IV. Fight to Keep Our Religious Liberties
A. Don't be afraid of the enemy
B. Get plugged into the power source

Conclusion:

Illustration: We hold these truths to be self-evident-that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
