GO TELL SOMEBODY!
Text: John 1:35 – 42 “Again the next day after John stood, and two of
his disciples; 36And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold
the Lamb of God! 37And the two disciples (Andrew) heard him speak, and
they followed Jesus. 38Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and
saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to
say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? 39He saith unto
them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with
him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. 40One of the two which
heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have
found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42And he
brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art
Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by
interpretation, A stone.”
Intro: We need to be like Andrew. He is one of the top ten Christians
in the Bible. He has been called the first missionary because he
brought his brother Simon Peter, to Jesus. Andrew Clubs have been in
existence for many years. As soon as Andrew got saved he had to bring
someone to Jesus. He began with his own family. When the reality of
Heaven, Hell, and Eternity hits you, you have to tell somebody! You
can’t keep it to yourself.
I. TO GO AND TELL SOMEBODY REQUIRES A
PERSONAL FAITH
A. Andrew heard John Speak, “Behold the Lamb of God!”
B. John pointed over to Christ
C. This is one of the first lessons in soul winning
D. We must point people to Jesus, not ourselves
E. Andrew spent some time with Jesus
F. Andrew followed Jesus
G. Andrew received Jesus as his Saviour
II. TO GO AND TELL SOMEBODY REQUIRES
DIRECTION AND DEDICATION
A. Andrew brought his own brother to Jesus
B. Without argument, without hesitation, he told Peter that he had
found the Messiah, the Christ, “And he brought him to Jesus.”
C. Who told Andrew to go after his brother?
D. He was saved and with the joy of the Lord in his heart he went to
Peter and brought him to Jesus.
E. In John 6 a great multitude followed Jesus. He asked Philip about
buying bread. Jesus knew what He would do, but He was questioning His
disciples for a reason.
F. In the midst of His questioning, “Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother,
saith unto him, 9There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves,
and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?”
G. Andrew knew that this would not feed the crowd but his faith in
Christ led him to believe that the Lord would do something about it.
III. TO GO AND TELL SOMEBODY IS A
REQUIREMENT!
A. The Great Commission was given by Jesus to all believers!
B. Mat. 28:19,20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
C. We will stand before God one day!
D. 1 Cor. 3:12 “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day
shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire
shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14If any man’s work
abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15If
any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself
shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” For all of Eternity.
E. Proverbs 11:30 “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and
he that winneth souls is wise.
IV. THE GREATEST BUSINESS IN THE WORLD IS
SOUL WINNING!
A. Andrew’s greatest work was bringing his brother to Christ.
B. In John 1 we have Andrew the soul winner; Peter the sinner, Christ
the Saviour.
C. When Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost, 3,000 souls were
saved!
D. When Peter was cast into prison he gave his testimony and witnessed
with boldness
E. You never know what great preacher or evangelist might come from
your witness.
V. There are three things we must know.
1. We must know the lostness of men. All have sinned and come short of
the glory of God. The soul that sinneth, it shall die. Every man
without Christ is lost and undone-the rich, the poor, the high, the
low, the young and old.
2. We must know the power of the Saviour. He can save to the uttermost
all who will come to Him.
3. We must know the willingness of God.
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any
should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
Acts 16:30, 31 “Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31And they said,
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy
house.”
Conclusion: Andrew was not a great preacher or a great singer. He was
an ordinary man that did one simple thing – he introduced others to
Christ. Have you told your brother or sister about Christ? Have you
witnessed to your mother or father?
