KJV Sermon Outlines
Good Tidings of
Great Joy!
Text: Luke 2:8 - 20
Intro: Why did God choose the lowly shepherd to proclaim the wonderful
news? There is only one announcement of Christ’s birth recorded in the
Scriptures, only one invitation from God to anyone to come visit Mary
and Joseph and the infant Jesus. And that one invitation goes to a
bunch of uneducated, smelly, low-class, social and religious outcasts,
a bunch of shepherds.
I. Who Are The Messengers?
A. Isa. 6:1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD
hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me
to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and
the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”
B. Angels means messenger
C. Shepherds – Ordinary People
D. Busy People
E. Ill. The young salesman was disappointed about losing a big sale,
and as he talked with his sales manager he lamented, "I guess it just
proves you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink."
The manager replied, "Son, take my advice: your job is not to make him
drink. Your job is to make him thirsty." So it is with evangelism. Our
lives should be so filled with Christ that they create a thirst for
the Gospel.
