Healed By His Stripes

Text: Isa. 53:5

Introduction: When you think of healing, you naturally think of sickness, of disease, of medicine and of doctors. This verse of Scripture has in it the implication that would lead us to think of each of these. It brings us face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ as the Great Physician.

I. Why Do Men Need Healing
A. Because from the crown of the head to the sole of the foot man is spiritually depraved in the sight of almighty God.
B. Isa. 1:4-6 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. 5Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. 6From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
C. Because all are sinners in the sight of God.
D. Psa. 14:2,3 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
E. Because all have come short of the glory of God. Rom. 3:23
 
II. There Are Many Quack Healers
A. There is Dr. Reformation. Individuals go to see him about the first of every year and he reforms them. What the individual needs is not a change on the outside, but a change on the inside.
B. There is Dr. Religion. There is not an individual in this world who has been saved because he “got religion.”

III. The Characteristics of Jesus’ Healing
A. In healing the Lord Jesus Christ is sovereign
B. Every time the Lord Jesus heals any individual spiritually, a miracle takes place;

IV. How The Lord Jesus Heals
A. The Lord Jesus heals us by suffering for us.
B. He came to Calvary, and there his blood was poured out.
C. There is not an individual healed spiritually apart from the stripes of the Lord Jesus Christ.
 
Conclusion: Aren’t you thankful for the blood!
