The God of a
Second Chance
Text: Jonah 3:1,2
Introduction: Just like Jonah many times we go our own way and do what
is convenient instead of what God wants us to do. The good news is
that God is the God of a second chance.
I. God Is Merciful
A. Ps. 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his
truth endureth to all generations.
B. God showed mercy toward Jonah and gave him a second chance.
C. God showed us His mercy on Calvary.
II. God Is Patient
A. Rom. 15:5,6 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be
likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: 6That ye may
with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
B. He was waiting for Jonah.
C. He doesn't give up on us
D. He is always there patiently waiting like the father of the
prodigal son.
III. God Is Long-suffering
A. Num. 14:18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving
iniquity and transgression,
B. He is not sitting on the edge of His Throne waiting for you to
fall.
IV. God Is Just
A. 1 John 1:9,10 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If
we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is
not in us.
B. He is the most fair Judge, unlike many judges today.
C. He knows the truth.
