CASTING AWAY THE
GARMENTS OF SIN
Text: Mark 10:46-52 (V.50)
Introduction:
A. Jesus passing through Jericho for the last time.
B. He is on His way to Jerusalem and to the Cross.
C. A blind man received his sight.
I. WHO THIS BLIND MAN WAS. (Verse 46)
A. Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus.
B. A beggar.
C. A picture of a lost sinner.
1. Born in sin.
(Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother
conceive me.); (Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the
glory of God)
2. Blind spiritually. (2 Corinthians 4:3,4 But if our gospel be hid,
it is hid to them that are lost: 4In whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the
glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto
them.)
3. Unable to save himself.
(Eph. 2:1,8,9 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses
and sins; 8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should
boast. )
II. THE PERSON HE MET. (Verse 47)
A. Jesus of Nazareth!
B. A cry for mercy.
C. See his persistence...
D. And Jesus stood still.
E. Jesus called for him to come.
F. He is still calling sinners.
(Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest)
III. WHAT HE DID. (Verse 50)
A. Cast away his garment. (Genesis 35:2 2Then Jacob said unto his
household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods
that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:)
B. Repentance is necessary. (Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye
repent, ye shall all likewise perish.); Acts 20:21 Testifying both to
the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith
toward our Lord Jesus Christ.)
C. He rose and came to Jesus.
IV. WHAT HE RECEIVED. (Verse 51)
A. What wilt thou that I should do unto you?
B. Lord, that I might receive my sight.
C. Immediately His blind eyes were opened.
D. He followed Jesus in the way. (2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any
man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new.)
Conclusion:
A. What Jesus did for Bartimaeus, He will do for you!
B. Jesus is calling for you today.
C. Come without delay.
