Choose This Day
Whom You Will Serve
Text: Joshua 24:14,15
Introduction: These are the days of decisions. Decisions that will
effect the destiny of all of us are being made daily. The decision
that God is calling for this morning is of more importance than any
other decision you will ever make. This decision is whether or not you
will come to Christ and serve Him.
I. It Is A Personal Decision
John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting
life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the
wrath of God abideth on him."
A. It is personal because it effects you.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and
lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30For my yoke
is easy, and my burden is light. Mat. 11:28-30
B. It is personal because it brings you into intimate contact with the
Lord.
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and
open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he
with me. Rev. 3:20
C. It is so personal that no one can make it for you.
II. It Is A Decision That Must Be Made Now!
2 Cor. 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in
the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the
accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
A. It must be made now because we do not know what tomorrow holds.
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your
life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then
vanisheth away. James 4:14
B. It must be made now to avoid the hardening of the heart.
C. It must be made now because it cannot be made after death.
III. Why Should This Decision Be Made?
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the
glory of God;
A. Because you cannot save yourself.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his
mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the
Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5
B. Because God does not desire to see a soul eternally lost.
C. Because the Lord Jesus gave His life to save you.
IV. How Is This Decision Made?
Romans 10:9,10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord
Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from
the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be
ashamed.
A. By realizing that you are lost.
B. By heeding the Holy Spirit as He draws you.
C. By faith receiving the Lord Jesus into your heart.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons
of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12
V. How Will This Decision Effect Others?
Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John,
and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they
marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with
Jesus.
A. You will be called a fanatic by some.
B. You will cause divisions among some.
C. You will be able to win some.
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have
found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42And he
brought him to Jesus. John 1:41
VI. What Are The Results Of The Decision?
Eph. 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are
made nigh by the blood of Christ.
A. The Lord God becomes you Father.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the
Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18And
will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters,
saith the Lord Almighty. 2 Cor. 6:17,18
B. A Mansion over the hill top.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would
have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and
prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto
myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John14:2,3
C. God’s blessings
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth
thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Gen.
12:3
Conclusion: What decision will you make this morning. Will you be like
Joshua?
