Divine Messengers

Text: 2 Corinthians 8:23 “Whether any do inquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be inquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.”

Introduction: Each and every one of us is called by God to be a Divine Messenger. So the question this morning is: What is a Divine Messenger?

Divine = Being in the service or worship of God.

Messengers = One that carries messages or performs errands.

I. God’s Messengers – v. 23
A. Message
1. God’s Unconditional Love
2. God’s Mercy
3. God’s Plan of Salvation

A man distributed tracts for many years on a street corner. Finally, seeing no visible results, he gave up. When he returned to the same spot two years later, he saw another individual handing out Gospel leaflets as he had done. Striking up a conversation, he discovered that the man had become a Christian through a salvation tract given him on that corner about two years before. The convert added, “Many times I’ve come back here to find that earnest worker and thank him, but he never returned. I decided he must have died, and so I’ve taken his place!” The first man suddenly realized that his work had not been in vain. Much encouraged he went back to giving out tracts the very next day.
B. Method
1. Go
2. Be Faithful
3. Don’t Give Up
C. Motive
1. Do It For God
2. To Please the Lord
3. Not to please man
4. Not for recognition

Some time ago an 18-year-old girl from Washington state attended a worship service. For the first time in her life she heard the gospel message. The following Tuesday the members of the church received a letter from her. It read:
Dear Church members:
Last Sunday I attended your church, and I heard the preacher. In the sermon the preacher said that all men have sinned and rebelled against God. Because of their rebellion and disobedience they all face eternal damnation and separation from God.
But then he also said God loved men and sent his Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to redeem men from their sins and that all those who believe in him would go to heaven and live with God eternally.
My parents recently died in rapid succession. I know they did not believe in Jesus Christ, whom you call the Savior of the world. If what you believe is true, they are damned.
You compel me to believe that either the message is true, that you yourself don’t believe this message, or that you don’t care. You see, we live only three blocks from your church, and no one ever told us.

II. Satan’s Messengers
2 Cor. 12:7 “And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.”

A. Gives Us Excuses
1 Thess. 2:18 “Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.”
1. Too tired
2. Too shy
3. Too busy
4. It makes me uncomfortable
5. It’s not for me
B. Lie to us
C. Play mind games

III. Let’s Get Busy For The Lord
Titus 1:16 “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.”
A. Visitation
B. Tract Ministry
C. Prayer Ministry

Psalms 126:6 “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”

1. “He that goeth forth” – The go in Soul-winning

2. “and weepeth” – the broken heart in Soul-winning

3. “bearing precious seed” – the Word of God in Soul-winning

4. “shall doubtless come again … bringing his sheaves with him.” – the certainty of results with God’s methods.

5. “rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” – the Soul-winner’s reward.

Let’s ask God to make us Soul-winners this morning. People all around us are dying without Christ.
